Through my digital design education at the University of Cincinnati, I have a well-rounded background in not only
the principles of graphic design, but also translating those aspects to the screen. I took a variety of art history
classes including the history of digital design, and developed an interest in designing for the web. I have a passion
for usability and information architecture when it comes to website design and creating sites that make sense
to those who use them.
The major of Digital Design within DAAP offered a variety of studios, including Interactive Design, Motion Design, Digital
Imaging and Drawing, Video Production, Sight, Sound and Motion Techniques, as well as the traditional fine art studios such as
drawing, painting, color, shape and form. I believe that this background has given me a strong understanding of the principles
of design as well as a more creative and artistic nature.
As a student in a cooperative education/professional practice major
I have the equivalent of almost two years of hands-on experience in
professional environments. My past employers included marketing and
PR firms, interactive advertising agencies as well as corporate design
at Procter & Gamble
in Cincinnati, Ohio. As a co-op student my duties ranged from assisting
on large website designs, web development, creating e-newsletters
and interactive presentations to being the lead Digital Designer and
Developer for my own project. This hands-on experience allowed me
to use the techniques I learned in the classroom in a real life setting
and to work side-by-side in a mentoring environment with the professionals
in the industry.
I have just completed my last semester of graduate studies
at Purdue University’s College of Technology, earning a Masters
of Science degree in Computer Graphics Technology in December 2006.
The focus of my studies was in usability and human factors of design,
development and implementation of web sites and interactive multimedia. I
was also a Teaching Assistant (TA) for an Internet Foundations, Technology
and Development course (CGT141) helping students with basic web design
and development fundamentals.
